The Game Awards kembali di tahun 2020. Perhelatan penghargaan bergengsi tersebut sukses telurkan beberapa developer video game yang miliki karya dengan kualitas tertinggi. Tak hanya dari segi musik, narasi, maupun karakter, namun juga elemen keseluruhan yang dimiliki setiap gamenya.
Dibuat oleh mantan jurnalis GameSpot, Geoff Keighley The Game Awards sukses gaet atensi dari para fans video game dari seluruh dunia berkat integritas dan kemasannya yang menarik. Ia juga menjadi salah satu ujung tombak acara penghargaan bergengsi yang sepadan dengan beberapa acara serupa.
Dengan juri yang hadir dari berbagai media di seluruh dunia, The Game Awards mencoba ajak gamer untuk menghargai berbagai developer bertalenta setiap tahunnya. Tentunya dengan game yang tak hanya seru, namun juga sukses membuat player betah berlama-lama di depan layar.
Tahun 2020 menjadi salah satu tahun yang kelam tak hanya dari kehidupan akibat COVID-19, namun juga industri video game sendiri. Hal ini membuat beberapa event game seperti E3 harus dibatalkan karena belum siap untuk beradaptasi. Namun tidak untuk The Game Awards.
Berbeda dari tahun sebelumnya, The Game Awards 2020 dilaksanakan secara online dengan para pemenang yang hadir via video call. Sementara Geoff Keighley yang dibantu MC sekaligus jurnalis IGN membawakannya seperti biasa melalui panggung sederhana.
