Tahun 2025 berlalu sudah dengan Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 garapan Sandfall Interactive yang menyabet banyak penghargaan di berbagai acara video game tahunan seperti The Game Awards dan Golden Joystick Awards.
Tentu masih ada beberapa pagelaran yang akan berlangsung di tahun 2026 ini untuk mengapresiasi karya-karya keluaran 2025. Salah satunya seperti Game Developer Choices (GDC) Awards yang akan berlangsung di bulan Maret mendatang—tentunya dengan Expedition 33 yang lagi-lagi meramaikan ragam kategori penghargaannya.
Berbeda dengan pagelaran lain yang bisa memiliki belasan atau puluhan kategori, GDC hanya memiliki sembilan kategori. Dan delapan dari sembilan kategorinya menominasikan game buatan developer asal Perancis tersebut.
Adapun satu-satunya yang tidak menyertai Expedition 33 adalah nominasi untuk kategori Social Impact. Berikut semua kategori dan game yang dinominasikan pada GDC Awards 2026:

Sedikitnya kategori dalam pagelaran GDC Awards bertujuan untuk berfokus pada penilaian mutu pengembangan ketimbang popularitas. Penilaiannya sendiri dilakukan secara ketat oleh komite International Choices Awads Networks (ICAN), berisikan developer game veteran yang diundang secara khusus di tiap tahunnya.
Walau demikian, terdapat juga Audience Award yang merupakan kategori popularitas—pilihan langsung dari para fans. Voting dari para penggemar ini akan dibuka pada tanggal 26 Januari dan berlangsung sampai 8 Februari mendatang.
