Teknologi terus berkembang tiap harinya, gamer terus inginkan game dengan fitur baru, dan developer terus mencoba lakukan hal tersebut agar dapat memuaskan pembeli mereka. Hanya saja game yang mereka harus selalu disesuaikan dengan teknologi yang ada. Hal inilah yang mendorong generasi console baru terus muncul tiap periode tertentu. Di era modern ini, satu generasi console biasa dipertahankan 5-7 tahun sebelum beralih ke generasi selanjutnya. Berbeda dengan generasi awal yang bisa habiskan 10 tahun lebih.
Meskipun telah maju satu generasi, beberapa game masih terpaksa dirilis di generasi lama tersebut mungkin karena game sudah terlanjur dibuat untuk console tersebut dan tak punya waktu dan dana untuk kembangkan versi console yang baru, atau sekedar karena console tersebut masih ramai dan tak butuh banyak dana dihabiskan untuk buat versi console lama tersebut. Apapun alasannya, tiap console pasti punya “game penutup” sendiri sebelum benar-benar ditinggalkan oleh developer. Berikut adalah game terakhir yang dirilis di tiap console.
